The man is definitely a criminal, how can you collect so much money from over 200 people and still counting for 14 flats, how was he planning to share the house? The case is so dicey, as the house cannot be sold as it is not his. Potential tenants be careful, this case is very rampant now, that some agents will collect money from several people just for one property. To think, he had done it before and he even has the audacity to dupe his lawyer, o ma pe l'ewon (he'll be in prison for a long time).
The police in Lagos have arrested a developer, Hakeem Garba, for allegedly duping prospective tenants with a building located at 12 Daniel Makinde Street, Ketu. PUNCH Metro had reported on Tuesday that Garba and some others at large duped over 100 prospective tenants, collecting money ranging from N200, 000 to N750, 000 to rent out 14 flats. It was learnt that following a tip-off, policemen attached to Ketu Division were able to locate Garba, who is the prime suspect, and arrested him.
A police source said, “After over 100 tenants came to report the matter at the station, we were able to get some details about Garba and we learnt that he had been arrested before for a similar offence and that he was due to appear in court. “We traced him to the court and as he was coming out, we arrested him. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation.”
Our correspondent, who visited the SCID on Wednesday, observed that another set of 100 victims had come forward to write statements, bringing the total figure of victims to 205.
