A Police And A Robber Killed In Diamond Bank Raid In Lagos

It is unfortunate that the time the robbers used in planning this evil deed and the cost of ammunition, would have been steered into something more progressive and rewarding in the future, but no, they want it and want it now.

One policeman and an armed robber were killed in Ogba, Lagos State in a gun duel at a branch of Diamond Bank in the early hours of Thursday. According to police authorities, the robbers, numbering about 16, stormed the bank located on College Road and tied up the security guards at the bank before breaking an Automated Teller Machine.

It was learnt that a team of policemen on patrol, got wind of the situation and went to the bank. On seeing the policemen, the robbers were said to have opened fire on the patrol vehicle, killing a policeman in the process. The policemen called for backup after which a gun duel ensued for about an hour.

The Police Public Relations Officer, for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said one of the robbers was killed in the gun duel, adding that the robbery was foiled. She said, “Around 3am on Thursday, about 16 armed robbers stormed the bank, tied the guards and made for the ATM.

The robbers were in possession of a gas cylinder as well as cutting tools which they used to break the ATM. “Policemen on patrol went to carry out a routine check on the bank, but as one of the policemen was alighting, the robbers opened fire and he died. “The policemen engaged the robbers in a gun duel and many of them sustained bullet wounds. The robbery was foiled, but the robbers escaped with wounds."

“An AK47 rifle with 40 rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene as well as the gas cylinder and cutting materials.” Braide said the police were on the trail of the robbers and urged members of the public to report anyone seen with bullet wounds to the police.
