Amid encomiums, the remains of the Publisher and Vice Chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, Chief Oluwole Awolowo, were on Friday, interred in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, after a funeral service at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church.

 

The ceremony, reminiscent of the burial of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was graced by dignitaries from all walks of life, including a delegation from the Presidency, Speaker of the House of Representatives, state governors, former governors, members of the National Assembly and many others.

Sex Sells More Than Anything In The World - Nollywood Producer Kunle Afolayan

Nollywood producer, Kunle Afolayan while commenting on the recent controversy involving movies with elements of pornography in Nollywood, said that although such movies are against Nigerian culture, he wouldn’t be surprised if people patronise such films. “Sex sells more than anything in the world” he said.

He advised that such films be banned if the National Film and Video Censors Board finds them unworthy for the society. He stated this during a Google Hangout with Channels Television, other media outifts and fans alike from Nigeria and across the globe yesterday. The hangout was staged to usher in the official premiere of his movies; Irapada, Figuring and Phone Swap online, which will be available in three different languages.

Currently residing in London, she told Saturday Beats in a chat via Blackberry Messenger that she would not want to earn a living as an actress. Since your entry into the movie industry, what are the challenges you have had to face?

There were a lot of challenges that I faced that, not only me, other people in the industry also face these challenges. Let me tell you some of the challenges. The issue of transportation to location is a difficult one for me. I have had to transport myself going and coming back, at the end of the day, they will give you peanuts as your pay. Most times, they will tell you they will pay later and I will not get to see the money. For each of the movies, I was paid N25, 000. Imagine a widow with five children surviving on such a meager fee? It got to a point that I wanted to go back to nursing. A lot of people advised me against it. They thought my husband would be forgotten, but I must keep on struggling.

A sinkhole swallowed three cars early Thursday in a south Chicago neighborhood. Watch the white car on the right, the ground gives way and it tumbles into the hole! One person had to be rescued from the crater and was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

There was heavy rain and flooding overnight in the area, but it's not clear if that is what caused the ground to open up.
